Novella Progress and an Amityville Novelization
Also... Writing with Cats...
The love of my life, Patricia Lee Macomber (Wilson) and I are hard at work doing the novelization of THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS - based on the screenplay and film by Daniel Farrands. For those who have not used a screenplay for an outline, or who believe a job like this is an easy one, think again. In the film they are full show-me, but in a psychological thriller, what’s happening in thoughts and behind the scenes has to be built with words. Should be a fun project… as The Carpenter’s so eloquently put it, “We’ve only just begun…”
Meanwhile, the novella I’m writing has a working title of “When You Leave, I Disappear” - and is around 26,000 words now. Every time I think I see all of the angles, I realize there are more. It’s a complex piece that I am either going to curse to the end of my days or love. Leaning towards the amorous end at the moment, but things can change.
Another novella that was once published under a different title, and that has been heavily revised, is in the hands (hopefully) of it’s publisher. That would be “Closing Time at the Sunny-Side Up” - sort of like if Tarantino had written Smokey and the Bandit. More to come on that.
I have a story upcoming in an unannounced project that I will (of course) announce eventually. I have another in DEATHREALM: SPIRITS (you will see me at the link under my pseudonym “and many others”. Maybe one of the darkest stories of my recent career… Trish had two words for it. “So gross.”
For those of you interested in the NFT book releases, and the new world of eBooks you actually own, and don’t lease from Amazon, there are still some copies left to “mint” of Vintage Soul at Book.io, and there are some on sale as well on the secondary market. There is also the TATERNOMICON featuring most of the living authors working with Book.io so far, and the first book of The DeChance Chronicles, Heart of a Dragon to check out. Both of those two are available only on the secondary market (The links above will take you there). This new technology is moving along rapidly. You can pay with a credit card, no crypto knowledge necessary. You can read the books in their mobile app on PC, MAC, iPhones and Androids. Audiobooks and print on demand features are upcoming. It’s exciting stuff.
For those of you who are not aware, Trish and I write in a world of cats. We have twelve, currently, though two live in our climate-controlled garage most of the time. Any given evening I will have one to three of them either on my chair, or on me. The latest addition is Sam Francisco (center top row and lower right in my lap)… and yes, if you know the reference, you know). He was left behind by a family that moved and we coaxed him inside and got him healthy a few months ago. He’s a big fluffy snuggler now… and not conducive to typing, but we get by. I leave you with a couple of cat pictures.
Until next time…
