Excited that the DEATHREALM: SPIRITS anthology - edited by Stephen Mark Rainey, and published by Shortwave Media, will be out on the 17th of October. Sharing the contents page with a ton of very talented writers, Linda D. Addison / Meghan Arcuri / Larry Blamire / Maurice Broaddus / Heather D. Daughrity / Timothy G. Huguenin / Brian Keene / Ronald Kelly / Joe R. Lansdale / Kasey Lansdale / Eric LaRocca / Patricia Lee Macomber / Elizabeth Massie / Bridgett Nelson / Errick Nunnally / Jeff Oliver / Jessica Amanda Salmonson / Richard Thomas / Tony Tremblay / David Niall Wilson (ME!)

There is a great review of the book in Kirkus, and I’m pleased to say they called out my story, “I Was Going to Tell You Tonight,” along with Maurice Broaddus’s story, in particular. My story is very likely the grossest thing I’ve ever written, with the possible exception of the story “I Learned it From the Flies,” written very long ago. It’s been a while since I ventured into “body horror” and early Barker realms. It seems I did okay.  This book is available in pre-order from the Shortwave Media site, with links to all the retailers as well. If you have not seen (up close and in person) a book from Shortwave you are doing yourself a disservice. They are beautifully designed and crafted, the packaging is top shelf, and the publisher really loves books and stories. Check out there other titles at their website.

“David Niall Wilson’s “I Was Going to Tell You Tonight” is a delightfully disgusting foray into body horror, telling of a twisted relationship between two pest exterminators—one of whom has an increasingly strange obsession…” KIRKUS REVIEW

I also have another story coming up in a Shortwave project, but it is very hush hush and we aren’t going there. Instead we are going to talk for a moment about my novel Maelstrom.  I wrote this book a very long time ago. It was published in a limited edition by Bloodletting Press, sold out, and forgotten. It has since been resurrected in eBook, paperback and unabridged audio. There are two cool things about this book right now. The first is that an old US Navy friend read the dedication and the first chapter and drove all the way from Illinois to North Carolina to get it signed. That dedication was to a lot of guys I served with, and in particular Mark, who appears as “Flash” in the book, and his “Magic Bus,” a fan we took to concerts in San Diego and always parked near the 3 and the D so if we were wasted, we could find it on the way out. I love this story. Evil from beyond, black magic, a bunch of young people up against the unknown… and the band. Maelstrom.  The second cool thing is this. There is a Storybundle live right now, The Many Ways of Weird Fiction Storybundle, that includes this novel Again, I am surrounded by talent.  Nancy A. Collins / Richard Gavin / Charlotte Suttee / Ramsey Campbell / Brian Everson / Elizabeth Hand / Robert Jeschonek / Harambee K. Grey-Sun and Melissa Yuan-Innes.  This bundle is curated by Robert Jeschonek. It’s available for another twenty days or so.  All you need to know about these ten books and this bundle can be found here:  The Many Ways of Weird Fiction    - how Storybundles work is here: “What is Storybundle?” Go – get a bunchy of books you did not know you needed… get Maelstrom and come back and tell me if you loved it, hated it, whatever. I write stories to be read.

And that is enough for the moment. My novella in progress should be in edits by next week, the novel in progress will follow and more stories. Really starting to feel like a writer again… I have readers to thank. Please be one of them? I’d love to tell you a story
